Billing

Billing and payments.

Take the guesswork out of coding.

CPT, HCPCS and ICD-10-CM are applied at the visit, in the same screen as the note — not re-keyed into a separate program at the end of the month, when nobody remembers what was done.

  • One place. The visit, the codes, the invoice and the payment are the same record, so the numbers cannot drift apart.
  • Nothing to re-type. A superbill is built from what the provider already recorded.
  • Included. Billing is not a module you buy on top. It is in every plan.

What happens after the visit.

First, the clinic defines what it offers and what it charges in Services. The list starts from the clinic’s Procedure catalog, while prices and billing codes remain under the clinic’s control.

The provider records the visit and the codes that go with it. From that, an invoice with a line per item — issue it, or keep it a draft until somebody has checked it.

Payments are recorded against that invoice: card, cash, check, bank transfer or an insurance payment. The patient balance and the day’s revenue are computed from the invoices themselves, which is why the dashboard figure and the ledger always agree.

Insurance.

Claims are prepared in the form each practice needs: 837P for office visits, 837I for facilities such as dialysis, nursing, home health and surgery centers, and 837D for dental, with the tooth and surfaces on each line. When a payer answers, the 835 remittance is read back and matched against the claim it belongs to.

Denials arrive from payers as numeric CARC codes. We translate them into a sentence, in English or Spanish, so the person working the queue can see that a claim was denied for a missing referral rather than reading “CO-16” and going to look it up.

What a clinic actually asks.

  • Do we have to code twice? No. Coding at the visit is the only place it is entered.
  • Can the front desk take a payment? Yes, against the invoice, by whichever method the patient used.
  • Do superbills come out of it? Yes, generated from the visit rather than assembled by hand.
  • Is there a per-claim fee? Yes. Submitted claims are billed at $0.50 each.
  • Why 50¢ when some competitors charge 25¢ or less? Because that is what the clearinghouse charges us. We pass the cost through without a markup. If your practice files a lot of claims, on Enterprise or a custom plan with more providers, there is room to negotiate a better rate, as long as the math still works for both sides: write to us at sales@logblues.com. And on the whole bill, once the assistant, the seats and the front desk are counted, LogBlues stays very competitive for a practice with several providers.

Paying us is a different page.

This page is about your clinic billing patients and insurers. If you were looking for your own subscription, the card on file, or an invoice from LogBlues, that is on your account and payment page.
